Andrea Joslin- The Human Bean

Andrea Joslin, the owner of The Human Bean, started her business with a strong purpose, deeply rooted in her love for the Lubbock community where she has lived her whole life. For Andrea, owning a coffee shop is not just about selling coffee; it’s about investing in her hometown and forming lasting relationships with the people around her. One of her favorite parts of running The Human Bean has been meeting new customers every day and hearing their stories. She enjoys building meaningful connections that enrich her life and the community. Andrea is especially proud of mentoring younger employees, helping them grow into confident leaders. She finds great satisfaction in watching them develop personally and professionally. Giving back to the community is also important to Andrea, and she feels proud of hosting events like Coffee for a Cure. During this event, 100% of sales go to local organizations that support people with breast cancer, showing her commitment to making a positive impact in Lubbock. She also credits the SBDC for helping her create a solid business plan, which was crucial for her success as an entrepreneur.

What makes The Human Bean different from other coffee shops is its focus on providing a great experience and a strong connection to the community. Andrea’s drive-thru coffee shop offers convenience without sacrificing quality, ensuring that every drink is made with care. However, it’s her dedication to excellent customer service and community involvement that truly sets her apart. Andrea actively seeks ways to give back, hosting several charitable events each year to support local causes. Her love for her work and community is very personal, and she aims to create a welcoming atmosphere where customers feel valued. Her advice to her younger self would be to stay focused on her goals, work hard, and trust in faith and prayer during difficult times. She believes that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and that hard work combined with faith will lead her to success.
